What is a chase boat?
A chase boat is a fast, fully autonomous support vessel that follows a superyacht during a charter or the whole season. Unlike a traditional tender, which is small and designed for short transfers, a chase boat has the range, speed, comfort and crew to operate independently: guest transfers to shore, excursions to places the mother ship cannot reach, water sports, provisioning runs, scouting anchorages and carrying luggage or equipment. Many owners call it a shadow boat or support tender; the role is the same — giving guests total freedom while the superyacht stays at anchor.
Chase boat vs tender: what is the difference?
Most superyachts already carry a tender on board, but garage space limits its size. A dedicated chase boat — typically a 12 to 15 metre luxury RIB or day boat — offers much more: higher speed, more seating and shade, a proper sun deck, a cabin and bathroom, and enough range to cross between islands with guests on board. It can be towed behind the mother ship on longer passages and then released at destination, fully independent.
